I visited Forest Hills Cemetery to see what I could find.<\/p>\n<p>I saw this eastern forktail damselfly resting on a reed at the edge of Lake Hibiscus.  Damselflies rest with their wings closed or only slightly open.  According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.odenews.org\/MAguide.htm\"><i>A Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Massachusetts<\/i><\/a>, eastern forktails emerge early in the spring and are very common in this area.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_388\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_388\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 810px\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/01_2013_05_08_damselfly.jpg\" alt=\"Eastern Forktail Damselfly resting\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" class=\"size-full wp-image-388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/01_2013_05_08_damselfly.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/01_2013_05_08_damselfly-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_388\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eastern Forktail Damselfly<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nAmerican bullfrogs were lounging on the edges of the water and would disappear with a loud plop as I approached.  Bullfrogs can be distinguished from green frogs by the ridge that runs from behind their eye. Sliders can get much larger than painted turtles. Later in the morning, I saw this bird fly laps around the lake. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/thedailybirdnewengland.blogspot.com\/2013\/05\/good-weather-bad-birding.html\">The Daily Bird<\/a>, the high pressure system in our area has resulted in unfavorable northerly winds for warbler migration.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_396\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_396\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 602px\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/09_2013_05_08_warbler.jpg\" alt=\"Yellow-rumped warbler\" width=\"592\" height=\"392\" class=\"size-full wp-image-396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/09_2013_05_08_warbler.jpg 592w, https:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/09_2013_05_08_warbler-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yellow-rumped warbler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I saw five chipping sparrows in three different areas and, surprisingly, no house sparrows.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_397\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_397\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 810px\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/10_2013_05_08_sparrow.jpg\" alt=\"Chipping sparrow\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" class=\"size-full wp-image-397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/10_2013_05_08_sparrow.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sicloot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/10_2013_05_08_sparrow-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chipping sparrow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, this pair of brown-headed cowbirds was dawdling behind a flock of starlings.
